...literally, while he was driving. Impressive aim.

And now my dad has a notorious hatred for all things deer.

Yeah, he got really lucky. Just happened so dunno about estimates to pop that sucker out yet.

Happened to me before in my uncles jeep. Cruising along at night and all the sudden a deer just nailed the passenger side. Kept on running after it regained it's bearings too.

Very nice. Same here, and apparently the deer survived too.

I deer jumped out/ran out at (can't remember) my aunts car, and only hit the mirror, the mirror fell off, but still, very lucky.

Stupid deer thought it was a Ram.
Also: Insert Louis CK deer bit here.

Does he like the C30? (That is a C30 right?)

What kind of car? All I see is one dented panel, but I'd like to get the whole picture, so to speak.

This happened to me once, casually driving our tractor (insert John Deere truck) in 2nd low, it came out of nowhere and headbutted the tractor's front weights.
The tractor didn't even shake and the deer kept trying until I stopped. Then it tried to attack my left leg (managed to scratch me). I lifted my foot off the clutch making the tractor to jump a bit and scaring the deer away.
To this day one of the most WTF moments of my life. Completely random deer attacking a big tractor.

Fucking autocorrect.
Fucking Kinja that doesn't allow me to edit my post.
I meant to say "Insert John Deere JOKE".

Yeah, it's a 2011 C30 R-Design. He loves it - he's been driving around a 1998 4Runner (manual!) since 2000, so the difference was... noticeable. Bought it in New York and hooned it all the way across Connecticut on the way home. Its a great little car, although there is a LOT of torque steer and the gearbox is a little rubbery for my tastes.

I wouldn't say no to a John Deere truck. A buddy of mine was similarly harassed leaving his car at night (he lives near the woods) - he saw it while parking, thought "How cute," and then shit his pants a little when it charged at him upon exiting.

Haha sorry, I don't live near my folks anymore. My mother sent me the pic. But it's a 2011 Volvo C30 R-Design, so you can use your imagination.

Yeah, I'm thinking this won't be a fun bill to open, especially since he insists on using the dealership's shop.

Insurance?
![]() 11/04/2013 at 17:10 |

Possibly, depends on how much it is. My dad has reached a stage in life where he will pay more to end an unpleasant experience sooner than later, and dealing with insurance companies is high on his list of unpleasant experiences.

Solid! I love the C30. Always have. I wouldn't mind picking one up at some point.
No major issues with it?

They are amazingly aggressive sometimes! Your friend got away unharmed?
I was thinking WTF the whole time. I stopped the tractor to avoid hurting it and see if it would call it a win and go away, but then it tried to attack my leg. That was the only moment I got a bit scared. But I was more afraid of hurting it than getting hurt.
One of our cows had the habit of charging against the tractor, too, for some reason. She (#19-green was her tag, 10 years later and I still remember) would charge like mad, stop a few feet before hitting it then just shove its head against the weights. Sometimes while standing among our cattle she would sneak behind my back and "gently" bump into me.

Seems like it's probably the smart thing to do, if you have the money. I don't own a car because I'm to young, and therefore I don't own insurance. So, newbie question: Wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to not go through insurance, if you have the money at the moment (because rates rise etc.).
![]() 11/04/2013 at 17:26 |

Yeah, he was fine. Dove back into the Subie and waited it out. Sounds like your tractor is cursed!

Love it.

I am not too young anymore, but I still don't have a car yet (don't let it happen to you!), so I'm not 100% sure. I think the repairs for most new cars are generally going to be far more expensive upfront than the eventual rise in insurance rates, so it's better to have patience. Plus there's always the chance you end up with an unscrupulous mechanic who overcharges.

Oh, that makes sense.
![]() 11/04/2013 at 17:44 |

No, it's a great car. The driver's seat is a very nice place to be. And of course, dat ass. Highly recommend, although I'm not paying for maintenance

Something like that happened to the Pontiac POS we had years ago. I was sitting in the passenger seat. All of a sudden, I'm covered in glass and the mirror's in my lap. We whacked a buck with it, sending it through the window.
![]() 11/04/2013 at 19:09 |

Oh one more question! Will you be eating it? Or did it run away?
![]() 11/04/2013 at 20:07 |

It ran away unfortunately. He's not the roadkill-taking type anyway.

A deer ran into my mini-van about a year ago. We paid $975 for the van, the insurance company totaled it (I carried full coverage at $6 a month). I decided to buy the van back, and got a check for $1750. I bought a new door for $50. Totally worth it.
Thanks, deer.

Is that a C30? Poor Volvo!

Haha amazing! Hope you put the money to good use.

It is. Thankfully the glass ass is still intact.

That's my favorite bit but I imagine it'd be expensive to fix!
My dad has a 2012 S60 T5 and loves it. My mom wanted a C30 R-Design so badly but it wasn't practical for a family of 4 with 4 dogs.

Yeah, rent money! If you ask my 3 year old son "What does a deer say?" he replies with "DEER SAYS THUMP INTO OUR CAR!"
![]() 11/04/2013 at 21:31 |

He's waiting for an estimate. I'm not sure what's underneath the metal, but I'm guessing they'll want to replace the panel entirely.
I remember him criticizing my mom's old 850 Turbo wagon and Volvos in general a lot when I was a kid (mostly because he was writing all the checks for maintenance), but now that the kids are grown he wanted a luxury hatchback with a manual. And so it was.
The S60 is a fantastic car. Some people are down on new Volvos but I really love that there is at least one car manufacturer pumping out relatively restrained designs. Also, buttons.

I love the center stack. Buttons are so much better.. I easily know what I am doing without taking my eyes off the road
